The talented young Japanese cellist Michiaki Ueno received the 35th Nippon Steel Music Award 2025 as the “Promising New Artist”.
The nomination policy of the Promising New Artist Award emphasizes musical talent and potential in addition to technique.
“Since winning the 75th Geneva International Music Competition, Michiaki has shown his versatile talents in the fields of recital, concerto and chamber music. Particularly at his solo recital held in May 2024 featuring exclusively unaccompanied cello pieces written by Japanese composers, (…) he gave outstanding performances brimmed with his great sensitivity,” said the cellist Nobuko Yamazaki, a member of the award jury.
