Conductor Tugan Sokhiev will assume the role of Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the prestigious Orchestre de la Suisse Romande beginning with the 2026–27 season. His tenure is scheduled to last three seasons, and starting with the 2027–28 season, he will spend six weeks each year conducting the orchestra.

Sohiev’s first collaboration with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande took place in 2024. Since then, he has delivered a series of memorable performances, most notably his October 2025 performance of Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, which was highly praised by the orchestra members and served as the catalyst for this appointment. In addition to his conducting duties, he will be actively involved in shaping the orchestra’s artistic direction and will participate in auditions and the hiring process.

This fall, Sohiev will also make guest appearances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and in early 2027, he will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s traditional New Year’s Concert on New Year’s Day.
