Yuri Umemoto

Yuri Umemoto (b.2002) is a composer born in Tokyo. His music is built through notation, recording, and editing, often incorporating recorded voices and songs. He creates works ranging from stage performances to recordings. His practice spans classical and contemporary music/art, as well as club, experimental, ambient, and pop music scenes.

The new opera crypt_, commissioned by the Münchener Biennale, premired in May 2026. This work is a co-production with the Münchener Biennale, Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Oslo Sinfonietta, Black Box teater Oslo, and Klang Festival Kopenhagen. Upcoming projects include a new orchestral work commissioned by PODIUM Esslingen will be performed by ensemble reflektor, conducted by Xizi Wang.

Recent performances include a portrait concert at Les Urbaines, Lausanne, Switzerland (2025); at Radialsystem and Sammlung Hoffmann, Berlin, Germany, performed by Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop (2025); at Kings Place, London, UK, performed by Brother Tree Sound (2025); PODIUM Esslingen, Germany (2024–2025); and Thüringer Bachwochen, Germany (2024).
