Robert Trevino to Become Principal Conductor of George Enescu Philharmonic Robert Trevino to Become Principal Conductor of George Enescu Philharmonic

American conductor Robert Trevino has been appointed Principal Conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra (GEP) based in Bucharest, Roumania.
The decision of this appointment followed immediately after the GEP had a ‘feeling of deep connection’ during Trevino’s successful debut with the orchestra performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 in November 2025.
In August 2026, Trevino will lead the GEP at Italy’s Ravello Festival, before his initial four-year-tenure as their Principal Conductor will start in October 2026. During this term, the orchestra will celebrate its 160th anniversary in 2028.
Please watch the following video message from Trevino:
Currently the Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Trevino served as Music Director of the Basque National Orchestra for eight years, and as Chief Conductor of the Malmo Symphony Orchestra.
Trevino’s next appearance in Japan will be in June when he will guest conduct the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra with a program around Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11.
