JAAP VAN ZWEDEN, Conductor

ALEXANDRE KANTOROW, Piano *China Tour and Taiwan Tour

In 2019, at the age of 22, Alexandre Kantorow became the first French pianist ever to win the First Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition, as well as the Grand Prix, awarded only three times before in the competition’s history. In 2024, he made history once again by becoming not only the first French but also the youngest recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award, one of the world’s most prestigious international piano prizes, presented every four years.

He performs with many of the world’s leading conductors, and in recent years has appeared with Ivan Fischer, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Antonio Pappano, Teodor Currentzis, Klaus Mäkelä, Valery Gergiev, John Eliot Gardiner, Manfred Honeck, and Esa-Pekka Salonen, among others. He has collaborated with some of the most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
Praised by critics as “the reincarnation of Liszt” (Fanfare), Alexandre Kantorow has established himself as one of the leading figures of the international piano scene. Born into a family of musicians, he studied with Rena Shereshevskaya and records exclusively for the BIS label.
