Kanade Yokoyama
Born in 1984 in Sapporo.
While studying vocal music at the Arts and Culture Course at the Hokkaido University of Education Sapporo, he decided to become a conductor. He studied conducting at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, and completed a master's degree in music at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Yokoyama has studied conducting under Douglas Bostock, Tadaaki Otaka, Ken Takaseki, Takao Nakamura and Hideomi Kuroiwa. He won 2nd place and the Audience Award at the 18th Tokyo International Music Competition in 2018.
In his native Japan, Yokoyama has established a reputation as a fresh, energetic, and talented conductor of exceptional versatility and has conducted most of the country’s major orchestras: the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Chiba Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Shion Wind Orchestra, Hyogo PAC Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Kyushu Symphony Orchestra etc.
In 2015–2017, Yokoyama served as the conduct researcher of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. He enjoys climbing mountains and BBQ on his days off. He has appeared as a seasonal guest on NHK-FM's "Kenjiro Ishimaru's Yama Cafe" where he has gained popularity by sharing stories relating to mountain climbing and classical music.
