2月7日、音楽の殿堂、モスクワ音楽院大ホールで始まったリハーサルでは、ベートーヴェンの「コリオラン」序曲の最初のフォルテが鳴り響いた瞬間、誰もが今回のコンサートが特別なものになることを予感した。たった二日間の、決して長いリハーサルではない中、まるで運命的に導かれたように、心と心を通わた音楽が、目指す形に整えられていく様は、もしかしたらコンサート本番より見ごたえのあるものだったかもしれない。
　
充実したリハーサルの後、会場をチャイコフスキー・コンサート・ホールに移してのコンサート本番。「コリオラン」序曲に次いでブラームスのヴァイオリンとチェロのための二重協奏曲では、仙台国際コンクールに優勝し、日本でも活躍しているアリョーナ・バーエワと共演。白眉はやはりブラームスの交響曲第4番。全編を通して、圧倒的な弦楽器の重厚なサウンド、特に2、4楽章で際立って美しく響いた木管セクションのハーモニーや、流麗に歌い継がれていく各首席奏者のソロ、終楽章パッサカリアではロシア随一のオーケストラの底力を見せつけるようなブラス・サウンド、そしてこの巨大なオーケストラを操る井上の指揮、すべてが会場を埋め尽くした聴衆を魅了した。

From the instant the first forte of Beethoven's Coriolan Overture resonated around the legendary Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, at the first rehearsal the on the 7th February, nobody doubted that the forthcoming concert would be very special. During the two short days of rehearsal, the musical connection between conductor and orchestra expanded rapidly and profoundly, almost as if fate had intended the meeting, and for those attending the rehearsals listening to the evolution of the interpretation was almost as uplifting as hearing the concert itself.

The concert, which took place in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, began with the Coriolan Overture followed by the Brahms Double concerto for violin and cello, with the Sendai International Competition winner Aleana Baeva. The highlight of the evening was, as could be expected Brahms Fourth Symphony: throughout the work the strings sustained an imposing yet dignified sound, the woodwind section harmony had a particular beauty, especially in the second and fourth movements, and each section principal played his solo with part with a lyrical elegance. In the last movement, the Passacagalia, brass displayed their true strength and the power of the performance by this great orchestra, led by Michiyoshi Inoue, was greeted by rapturous applause from a delighted audience.
