Yuzuko Horigome was born in Tokyo and studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music with Professor Toshiya Eto. In 1980, her graduation year, she won first prize at the Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition Belgium.
Ms. Horigome went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras
including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic,
Pittsburgh Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Concertgebouw
Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, DSO Berlin, Vienna
Symphony, La Scala di Milano, London Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham
Orchestra, Camerata Academia Mozarteum Salzburg, Academy of St.Martin in
the Fields in performances with Claudio Abbado, Andre Previn, Kurt Masur,
Charles Dutoit, Riccardo Chailly, Erich Leinsdorf, Seiji Ozawa, Ivan Fischer,
Simon Rattle, Sándor Végh and Vladimir Ashkenazy. She also
appears as soloist with all the major Japanese orchestras.
Ms. Horigome is a regular guest artist at many international festivals such as the Marlboro Festival, Lockenhaus, Tanglewood and Musicfest La Jolla, and gives many solo recitals. A dedicated chamber musican, she performs regularly with many distinguished musicians, such as her recording release of Beethoven Piano Trios with Rudolf Serkin and Peter Willey.
Ms. Horigome has become particularly associated with the music of Toru Takemitsu and has recorded Far call, Coming far with the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra on the Denon label.
Her recordings on Sony Music Japan International label include the Bach
Concerti with the English Chamber Orchestra, Bach Solo Sonatas, the complete
Mozart violin concertos with the Camerata of Salzburg under the baton of
Sándor Végh, the Sibelius and Mendelssohn Violin concerti
with the Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of Ivan Fischer, the
Beethoven Concerto with Dortmund Symphony, and Bruch's Violin Concerto
and Scottish Fantasy with the Royal Philharmonic under Yuri Simonov.
