Takumi Kubota began her international career after being the first Japanese violinist to win first prize at the International Music Competition in Munich in September, 1984. The following year, she performed with Bayerisches Staatsorchester/Wolfgang Sawallish, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and appeared in recitals in Trieste, Milan, Hamburg, Bremen, Dortmund and a Munich suburb, earning wide recognition among European musical circles.
In December, 1984, Ms. Kubota made her recital debut in Tokyo, and following her concerto appearances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka in January, 1986, she appeared with all the other Japanese major orchestras including the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
A dedicated chamber musician, in 1988 she formed the Vienna Piano Quartet whose members include Avo Kuyumjian, with whom she frequently performs duo recitals. Their concerts in Japan are enthusiastically praised for their consummate technique, combined with sensitivity and passion.
Born in Tokyo, Takumi Kubota started playing the violin at the age of four. In 1976, as a high school student, she won second prize in the Japan Music Competition. In 1977 she entered the Diploma Course at the prestigious Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, going on to enter the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in Vienna in 1978 where she studied under Wolfgang Schneiderhan.
Ms. Kubota currently teaches at the Tokyo University of Fine Art and Music. From her two professional bases in Vienna and Tokyo, she travels extensively giving recital and concerto engagements in Europe and Japan.
