Takashi Hironaka received his musical education at the Toho Gakuen High School of Music and Toho Gakuen School of Music, studying under Teiichi Higashi, Aiko Iguchi and Motonari Iguchi.
Following successes in several Japanese competitions, in 1962 he was laureate of the first Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and from 1963-65, as one of the Fulbright Scholarship students, studied the piano with Professor Gorodnitzki at the Juilliard School of Music. In 1967 he left the U.S. to study in France, and a year later won First Prize at the first Cziffra International Competition held in Versailles, In 1969 his international career was launched when he was a prize-winner at the International Long-Thibaud Competition, Paris.
Mr. Hironaka is regularly invited to perform in recital, as soloist and as partner to violinist, Naoko Kubo in Russia and throughout Europe and recently gave recitals in the Sainokuni Saitama Art Theater's prestigious Pianist 100 series and at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. He plays with all the major Japanese orchestras including the NHK Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic under leading conductors such as Seiji Ozawa and, keen chamber musician, often performs with the Kiri Quintet.
Mr. Hironaka has served on the juries of various important piano competitions including the Casadesus International Piano Competition, France. He is a Professor at the renowned the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music.
