Masao Kawasaki performs extensively as soloist with numerous orchestras throughout Europe, Asia and North America both a violinist and violist. In Japan, he has performed with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Internationally, he performed with Orchestra Sinfonica de Bilbao, Orchestra de Valencia, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra, and in Carnegie Hall with the Cincinnati Philharmonia Orchestra.
An active recitalist and chamber musician, Mr. Kawasaki has collaborated with the world's most distinguished artists, including Isaac Stern, Pinchas Zukerman, Lynn Harrell, Yo Yo Ma, Yefim Bronfman, Jaime Laredo, Cho-Liang Lin, Joseph Suk, Nadja Solerno-Sonnenberg, and Leon Fleischer.
He has appeared, as guest violist, with the Tokyo, Emerson, Juilliard, American, Mito and Halley string quartets. Mr. Kawasaki is the violist of the Japan Piano Quartet and a resident member of the New Jersey Chamber Music Society, where he appears regularly in series such as the Berge Music Series, Linton Music Series, and Aspen Music Festival Chamber Music Series. Further festival guest appearances include at the Spoleto, Rockport, Casals, Mostly Mozart, Nagano and Miyazaki International Chamber Music festivals and the Casal's Hall Viola Space.
Mr. Kawasaki has recorded for CBS Sony, Nonesuch, EMI, Phillips, and Biss labels and has been featured on NHK-TV. He has been featured in live television broadcasts such as the Great Performance series on PBS and NHK Television's Classic Hours. His performances have also been broadcast on WQXR in New York, NPR, WGUC in Cincinnati, WFMT in Chicago and NHK in Japan.
Mr. Kawasaki is a Professor at the Julliard School, New York.
