Christian Arming is one of the most sought after conductors of the young generation, highly successful both in the symphonic and operatic field.
Christian Arming, 35, Chief Conductor of New Japan Philharmonic, was born
in Vienna and studied conducting under Karl Österreicher and Leopold
Hager at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Close collaboration
with Seiji Ozawa took him to Tanglewood (Boston Symphony Orchestra) and
to Tokyo (New Japan Philharmonic) several times from 1992-1998.
Since the beginnings of his career in 1994, Christian Arming has made guest appearances with the Vienna Symphony, Radio Symphony Vienna, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Deutsches Symphonie Orchestra, RSO Frankfurt, MDR Kammerphilharmonie, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic u.v.a.
At the age of twenty four Christian Arming conducted the Janácek
Philharmonic in Ostrava (CZ) for the first time. Shortly afterwards he
was appointed its chief conductor, a position he held until the end of
the 2001/02 season.
1997 and 1999 Christian Arming was invited to the Salzburg Festsival. In
July 1999 he conducted a new production of Britten's The Turn of the Screw
in Cincinnati. In the autumn of 1999 he took on, at short notice, the new
production of Rosenkavalier in Triest. Next followed new productions of
La Boheme in Lucerne (2001), Salome (2002) and Elektra (2003) in Verona
, and Borodin's Prince Igor in Strasbourg. In 2004 he conducted a revival
production Der Fliegender Holländer at the Frankfurt Opera.
When in May 2003 Christian Arming worked with the Czech Philharmonic at the Opening Concert of the Festival "Prague Spring" (Smetana: Ma Vlast), he was the second youngest conductor to do so ever in the history of this distinguishes Festival (after Rafael Kubelik).
Numerous interesting tasks await Christian Arming in the coming years in addition to his work as Chief Conductor in Tokyo. Future plans include an extensive European Tour with the New Japan Philharmonic, concerts in Canada (Vancouver), Austria (Vienna Symphony), Italy (RAI Torino), Germany (Munich Philharmonic, SWR Stuttgart, Dresden Staatskapelle) as well as recordings with the New Japan Philharmonic. A highlight in spring 2005 was the Leonore (concert version) in Tokyo. FONTEC released in Autumn 04 a twin-CD with Brahms' 1. and Mahler's 3. Symphony and in June 2005 appeared Mahler's Symphony no. 5.
In autum 2006 CA will conduct the Staatskapelle Weimar at the Bruckner
Festival in Linz as well as at the Prague Autum Festival. This is followed
by concerts with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in Vienna. Besides that
he will do several concerts with the New Japan Philharmonic in Tokyo as
well as his debut in Shinghai. In November he willö work for the first
time with the Camerata Salzburg doing concerts in Salzburg and Madrid.
With the Stuttgart Radio Orchestra he record in December. Finally he willö
be with the Orchestre National Capitole de Toulouse and will cloise the
year with a concert in Munich with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
