Born in Tokyo in 1986, Akiko Yamada entered the Conservatoire National
Supérieur de Paris in 2000 at the age of thirteen, where she currently
studies with Gérald Poulet, having received tuition from such artists
such as Herman Krebbers, Suzanne Gessner and chamber music with Alain Meunier
and Michel Strauss. In the same year, she won first prize in the International
Avignon Violin Competition.
Akiko Yamada received the first Grand Prix at the Georges Prêtre
International Violin Competition in 2001 and, a year later, second prize
at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg. In November of the
2002, Akiko Yamada became the youngest ever winner of the first Grand Prix
at the Concours International Long-Thibaud, one of the world's most prestigious
music competitions.
Her musical sensitivity, superlative technique and wide repertoire, ranging from baroque to contemporary works, have already won her acclaim in the French music world:

Akiko Yamada has begun collaborating as soloist with several orchestras,
notably the Orchestre national de France under the baton of Kurt Masur.
Her recitals in Europe and Asia with artists such as Bruno Rigutto, Marc
Laforêt, Nobuko Imai etc. are met with great critical and public
acclaim.
