Christian Tetzlaff’s interpretations of the violin concerto repertoire, whether of the classical/romantic period or 20th century/contemporary era are appreciated the world over. He is particularly well-renowned for his incomparable performances of the Bach Solo Sonatas and Partitas.
In the 2011/12 season he embarks on two major tours to Asia with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under Daniel Harding and the NDR Sinfonieorchester under Thomas Hengelbrock. Further projects include a play&conduct tour in South America with Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and European tours with the London Symphony Orchestra under Pierre Boulez and with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Andris Nelsons. This season he is artist in residence in Hamburg where he appears in a Bach Solo recital as well as in concert with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and the NDR Sinfonieorchester under Christoph Eschenbach. Christian also returns to the London Symphony Orchestra under Pierre Boulez and to the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Robin Ticciati.
In Europe he appeared with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski, Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen, and NDR Sinfonieorchester and John Storgårds. He continues to be a regular guest soloist with orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris and Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.
Christian performs at major festivals including those in Edinburgh and Lucerne, and at the BBC Proms, in addition to summer festivals throughout the US. He also gives recitals with chamber partners Leif Ove Andsnes, Alexander Lonquich and Lars Vogt, as well as his own Tetzlaff Quartet.
Tetzlaff’s discography for Virgin Classics and other labels includes the major concerto repertoire, Bartok Sonatas with Leif Ove Andsnes, and the three Brahms Violin Sonatas with Lars Vogt. Christian Tetzlaff has received several awards for his recordings: the Diapason d’Or twice, the Edison prize, the Midem Classical Award as well as the ECHO Klassik prize and several nominations for the Grammy. His recent solo recording of all of Bach’s solo Sonatas and Partitas on the Haenssler label deserves special mention. His latest recording of Mendelssohn’s and Schumann’s Violin concertos with hr-Sinfonieorchester and Paavo Järvi will be released I October 2011 (Ondine).
